- Educational objectives
- The course aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the unavoidable legal implications of the key ethical and anthropological challenges posed by new technologies applied to the human bios. In close dialogue with the advances in private law and constitutional law regarding the protection of individuals and their fundamental rights, the course aims to develop in students a reflective and critical mindset regarding issues and problems increasingly at the center of ethical and political debate.
- Prerequisites
- Basic notions of Western culture and history; passing the exams in Philosophy of Law, Private Law, and Constitutional Law.
- Teaching methods
- Lectures, case studies, and slides and videos for discussion if necessary.
- Other information
- Attending students will have the opportunity to take a final written self-assessment test or to present and discuss an in-depth thesis agreed upon with the teacher.
- Learning verification modality
- Oral exam.
- Extended program
- After clarifying some fundamental concepts and distinctions, the course will focus on analyzing the main problematic issues related to bioethics at the beginning and end of human life, always with a focus on the legal implications of the challenges posed by biotechnology and technological medicine. The most relevant private and public law aspects will also be addressed (the notion of the subject of rights, fundamental human rights, relevant legislation and case law). Reflection on these issues and problems will never be separated from the analysis and discussion of case studies drawn from real-life experience.
