| Educational objectives | The course aims to promote the acquisition of a philosophical vision of significant moments in the development of mathematics, especially through the reading and commentary of the works of the main authors. As an educational goal, it aims to train students to identify and understand the epistemological obstacles that emerged in the systematization of certain mathematical concepts over the centuries, providing them with the appropriate tools to address and overcome them. |
| Prerequisites | No particular prerequisites. |
| Teaching methods | Frontal lectures and guided readings. |
| Other information | Further materials and references will be provided during the lectures and made available on Unistudium. |
| Learning verification modality | Oral examination covering the entire course syllabus. The interview duration may vary between approximately 30 and 45 minutes. For information on support services for students with disabilities and/or SLD (Specific Learning Disorders), please visit the page http://www.unipg.it/disabilita-e-dsa |
| Extended program | Review of propositional logic, first-order and second-order predicate logic. Review of the history of mathematics with particular emphasis on the period of the crisis in the foundations. The readings of the main texts and most important articles will include, among others, works by Hilbert, Frege, Russell, Poincaré, Descartes and Galileo, Brouwer, Quine, Carnap, Kant, Gödel, Bourbaki. |
